PROJECTS

 Micro Loans

An amount of money is given to the parish priests to enable them to make loans to selected residents in the community.  This will enable them to set up their own small business and earn a living using their particular skill.   The loan is gradually paid back to the priest out of money earned and is then loaned out to others.   This project is especially helpful to widows with children who rely on growing food for their subsistence.   It also helps the community to develop.

Sponsorships

The children in Malawi are entitled to a free primary school education but fees are charged for Secondary school and above.  These are beyond the means of a large majority of the population.

Many of our parish families sponsor a child, who is identified by their parish priest.  Our current list of students, apart from those at secondary school, includes some at university, a medical student and an accountant.

Container Project

In the year 2009, we rented space in a large Container being sent to Malawi by the Anglican diocese of Birmingham.   We have now partnered with them and have since sent four further shipments.

Our next Container is scheduled for March 2014.

We send a wide variety of items from computers for schools to household tools, sewing machines and clothing.   Items are donated from many sources and teams of our parishioners work hard to pack and label them prior to being taken to Birmingham.

All computers, printers and sewing machines are repaired, serviced and upgraded before packing.

Our parish is supported in this project by many companies both local and distant. This list of our sponsors is not exhaustive:

Annabelle & Graham from Tyler Holdings Ltd have allowed us free use of a warehouse for the past four years, giving us room to sort, pack & store all the items for our containers.

Liam & Cora at T & T Express Deliveries have supplied the transport to Birmingham and the use of their vehicles for collecting many of the donated items.

Pureprint,  BKT,  St Ives Westerham Press,  Aqualisa Ltd and Siemens Water Technologies  have between them donated all the tapes, shrink wraps and many of the packing cartons.

Adam from VR Print has donated 60 thousand sheets of paper.   He has made up 215 notepads and donated many other items.

Dave and his team from Data Flight Services, Fareham, Hants, and St Gregory’s School have donated computers and other IT equipment.

C & H Fabrics have donated over 50 ‘end of reel’ lengths of fabric and cloth.   This will greatly benefit those involved with the sewing machines.

We have regular feedback from Malawi and many photos have been sent, showing the arrival and distribution of the container contents.
